Undercover police “snatch and grab” squads are dragging suspected moped thieves off bikes to combat the growing crime trend. Officers are using the new tactic to tackle the rise in attacks by moped thieves and to avoid the risks posed of pursuing them at speed through the streets.
Dressed in plain clothes, the undercover teams are targeting the gangs as they try and escape in slow traffic……

Glendale, Calif.–Police are looking for six suspects wanted for their roles in allegedly carrying out a distraction theft at a California jewelry store.
According to the Glendale Police Department, on June 14, two suspects approached the owner of Honolulu Jewelers as he was closing, asking to make a quick purchase. The owner agreed, allowing six people–five women and one man–to enter the store.
…..The Jewelers’ Security Alliance has identified the six as being members of the nomadic ethnic group Roma, also known as Gypsies, though President John Kennedy said they do not know at this time if this group is related to other thefts, in particular the surge in distraction thefts seen last fall. …..

New York–The Jewelers Security Alliance said the pattern of smash-and-grab robberies recently noted in the Midwest has spread to the Left Coast.
In its most recent crime alert, issued Friday, the JSA noted a total of four smash-and-grabs at jewelry stores in Oregon and Washington between August and now, including two in the past two weeks…..

A gang of thieves wielding machetes and a sword smashed their way into a Fleet Street watch boutique this morning, taking an unknown quantity of watches from the store.
The gang stormed the Chronext shop – a short distance from the Royal Courts of Justice – on scooters during business hours earlier this morning, reportedly smashing through the glass doors of the premises with a moped before threatening staff, smashing cases, and making off with watches…..

A significant rise in housebreaking incidents has seen more than £600,000 worth of Asian jewellery and cash stolen.
The high-value items were taken from homes in the Greater Glasgow police division.
Most of the 44 incidents reported since July this year happened in Newton Mearns and Robroyston.
Police Scotland officers believe the crimes are linked…..

A notorious Chilean jewellery thief alleged to be involved in a number of armed robberies across Barcelona jewellery stores has been arrested at Heathrow after months on the run. Catalan Police say the unnamed man is a suspected member of a well-known gang who took part used guns to hold up stores in the Catalonian city.
